Butterfly Garden located on Bolabog Beach in Boracay, Philippines is an open landscape garden covering an area of 2,200 sq. ft. The garden specialises in butterfly breeding with 20 species of butterflies and 150 varieties of plants, as plants play an important role in butterfly breeding programme. Plain Tiger, the Scarlet Mormon, Stripped Blue Crow along with others are some of the species of butterflies at the garden. The visitors can also enjoy the presence of bats also at the garden.
Learning tours are organised for the benefit of visitors where each and every aspect of butterfly life is explained in detail. The farm was established in 2002 and was open to public in 2005. It was initiated by Patrick Manion a retired chemist, and his wife Adela Jaudian as a hobby, which later got the recognition of a tourist destination. The farm possesses Wildlife and Collector's Permit from the DENR/PAWB and is registered to breed butterflies.
In order to make the visit interesting, the farm has provided sitting facilities at regular spots for the tourist to sit and closely observe the butterflies. Pathways at the farm support a walk around the garden.
Best time to visit
The ideal time to visit Boracay is between December and April.
Apart from being used for breeding the inhabitants of the Butterfly Garden, the colourful butterflies are released for live performances at occasions such as weddings and parties.
The Butterfly Park is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
