Cat Ba Monkey Island
Monkey Island is located about 1 km from Cat Ba town according to the skyway. In order go to Monkey Island, tourists often take a boat from the Beo dock, it takes about 10 minutes passing Cai Beo fishing village, through several small islands and then going straight to Monkey Island.
Previously, Monkey Island known as Cat Dua Island (Pineapple Island) because there are many pandanus which have fruit looked so delicious but not edible. Fishermen often take it for making cool drink or drying to make diabetes medicine. Today, the island's name is often called Monkey Island. The reason is that the island has more than 20 monkeys were released to live here by the rangers. They usually go to the beach to play with tourists and eat the foods given by tourists such as bananas, apples, tangerines, candy, etc. Cute monkeys playing, climbing create impression for anyone who have been come here and gradually it are called Monkey Island.
Monkey Island is about 3 kilometers in circumference. This is a mountain island with sandbanks formed over millions of years thanks to the wind and wave brought sand, stone, coral, types of shells of marine organisms such as shells of snail, clam, shrimp, crab to the foot of mountains forming the sand beach which stretches for miles. Monkey Island has 2 beaches in arc form: Cat Dua 1 and Cat Dua 2. Among them, Cat Dua 1 beach is longer where stationed of military barracks. This is an ideal beach for bathing of tourists when traveling to Cat Ba because of immensely clean and blue sea. There is thatched roof restaurant for visitors can sit to enjoy sea breeze, buy drinks, eat ice cream... with a number of services for visitors such as renting bathing suits, floats, kayaks, etc.. Cat Dua 2 beach located at the right side and behind a tiger-shaped mountain. The beach has a large garden with hundreds square meters with plants such as pandanus, heliotropium foertherianum, fig tree, white apple tree... and many different kinds of birds.
When coming to Monkey Island, some visitors may prefer to explore can climb halfway up the mountain, even up to the top of the mountain to enjoy the panoramic view of Lan Ha Bay with hundreds of large and small islands in the emerald water, and dotted with white sand beaches.
